Alliance for Choice welcomes the ruling by the High Court, Belfast to dismiss the challenge to the (NI) Abortion Regulations and reaffirm unequivocally that access to abortion is our right.
We now call on the Secretary of State (NI), Brandon Lewis to fulfil his obligation and ensure that the human rights of women, girls and pregnant people seeking abortions are easily accessible without travel to England
The attempts to stymie CEDAW compliant abortion provision in (NI) have continued for far too long as we are still without fully commissioned services. Consequently, many are being forced to travel and conscientious abortion healthcare providers are not supported by the Health Service.
Continual attempts to deny us our rights by exploiting parliamentary mechanisms or legal loopholes are running out of road.
Alliance for Choice are deeply concerned about the absence of an Assembly Executive without whom nothing deemed ‘controversial’ can be passed in Stormont. However whether the Executive remains or not, there is a legal obligation on the SOSNI to act urgently to commission services..
