Now it’s up to the NIO to regulate and enact provision by March 2020. They have launched a public consultation, which is supposed to be limited to the how’s of provision rather than the whys and why nots. The public consultation is open now and until the 16th December.
They have also included a Section 75 (Equality Screening) element to the consultation which is supposed to account for the specific impacts such legislation might have on protected communities such as disability, race, gender, sexuality etc., Alliance for Choice have serious concerns both by the unnecessary addition of extra grounds and time limits in the consultation, as well as the lack of thorough equality impact detail, except those to protect people of faith.
Consequently Alliance for Choice are working on a draft template for the public to use as a basis for their own. We will be holding Consultation Cafés from this Saturday to help people fill in the consultation. We will also have templates available online.
